More than 138 families in Randolph County received free turkeys for the holidays through a collaboration between State Senator Terri Bryant, State Representative David Friess, Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, and Chester Area Christian Food Pantry.
“Being able to give back and help bring a little extra joy to local families is truly what this season is all about,” said Senator Bryant. She highlighted the impact of community efforts during the turkey giveaway event.
Representative Friess also expressed gratitude for the collaboration. “Coming together to serve over 130 families this holiday season was a powerful reminder of the strength and generosity of our community,” he said. He acknowledged the contributions of volunteers and organizations involved in making the event successful.
The turkey distribution took place on December 11 at Chester Area Christian Food Pantry’s mobile market. Volunteers from various groups participated in handing out turkeys to residents.
“This mobile market was a record-setting event for Chester Area Christian Food Pantry’s Christmas season Mobile Market,” noted Bob Koenegstein, Director of Chester Area Christian Food Pantry. He mentioned that approximately 35 volunteers helped serve 138 families, including high school student organizations.
Meridian Health provided all turkeys free of charge. The organization offers managed care services to diverse groups, including families and individuals with complex medical needs.
