State Representative David Friess has expressed approval for Vistra Corp.'s decision to extend the operations of the Baldwin Power Plant until 2027. The extension aims to address energy reliability issues in the region, create jobs, support the local economy, and contribute to Illinois' sustainable energy goals.
"The Baldwin Power Plant has been a cornerstone of our local economy for decades, and I am grateful for Vistra’s decision to extend its operations," said Rep. Friess. "This move provides continued employment opportunities for hundreds of families in our community and ensures the reliability of our energy grid. Coal is good, reliable energy and I’m grateful for this extension as we work towards what comes next."
The extension is projected to maintain approximately 298 full-time jobs, generate over $41 million in income for local workers, and add more than $262 million to regional economic output. Additionally, solar projects associated with the plant are expected to produce $6 million in property tax revenue throughout their lifespan, benefiting public services and schools.
Rep. Friess represents the 115th District.
