State Representative David Friess (IL) | Representative David Friess (R) 115th District
State Representative David Friess, a Republican from Red Bud, has officially begun his new term in the 104th Illinois General Assembly. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Sangamon Auditorium on the University of Illinois Springfield campus. Rep. Friess has represented the 115th District since 2021, covering parts of Randolph, Perry, Monroe, Jackson, St. Clair, and Washington Counties.
“It’s time to get back to work in Springfield,” Rep. Friess stated during the event. “In this new term, I remain focused on strengthening Illinois’ economy, reducing taxes and regulations, and making Illinois an all-around better place to live, work, and raise a family. It’s time we set partisanship aside and work collaboratively to realize the full potential of our great state.”
Born and raised in Southern Illinois, Friess attended Chester High School alongside his wife Miki. They currently reside in Red Bud with their two children; Miki is employed as a teacher at Red Bud Elementary School.
Friess's career began after high school when he enlisted in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He later joined the Air Force Reserves as a Flight Engineer on the C-141 aircraft during Desert Storm operations. Following his military service, he worked for Delta Airlines in Atlanta before pursuing higher education at Mercer University where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice with honors. He furthered his studies by obtaining a Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School.
The couple returned to Southern Illinois to raise their children with local values. Friess is active within his community as a member of Ebenezer Church in Rockwood and several veterans' organizations including the Red Bud VFW and Chester American Legion.
During his previous term in the 103rd General Assembly, Rep. Friess served on various House Committees such as Public Utilities; Judiciary-Criminal; Elem Sec Ed: School Curriculum Policies; Appropriations-Public Safety; Natural Gas Subcommittee; and State Government Administration.
