FOIA Request to Perry County Il Clerk Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Illinois News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Perry County Il Clerk Elections Division. The request was sent on February 5, 2025.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested records pertaining to the upcoming election candidates. Specifically, we asked for a list of all candidates running in the forthcoming elections. The information requested includes each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
Furthermore, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As media professionals dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that our role in disseminating information makes us eligible for a fee waiver as per the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
