FOIA Request to Monroe County Il Clerk & Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continued commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Illinois News have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request is aimed at obtaining records of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The specific details requested include each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation. Additionally, we have requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that as media professionals engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver.
