City of Red Bud Public Health and Safety Committee met Feb. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Committee Members Present: Curt Guebert, Bill Hanebutt, Mike Rheinecker, Rodney Nevois, Kyle Donjon

Committee Members Absent: None

Council Members Present: Ben Schwartzkopf, Jeremy DeMond Council Members Absent: Alan Piel

Others Present: Mayor Susan Harbaugh, City Attorney Rebecca Cooper, Code Admin./City Engineer Jeff Mueller, Police Chief John Brittingham, City Clerk Joanne Cowell

Others Absent: City Superintendent Josh Eckart, Admin. Officer Jill Landgraf

Committee Chairman Hanebutt called the meeting to order at 6:16 P.M.

Old Business

I. Hiring of an Additional Police Officer

Committee Chairman Hanebutt referenced the Proposed New Police Officer Approximate Cost worksheet included in the packets. He asked for a show of hands, which all were in favor of, to add an additional officer to the FY’26 budget. Chief Brittingham may start advertising for the position, with the understanding that the position will not be available until the start of the new fiscal year. Committee Member Donjon questioned whether overtime is allowed, always having two officers on duty. Chief Brittingham said he allows for overtime if an officer wants to work it.

New Business

I. Approval of Prior Month’s Meeting Minutes – January 20, 2025

Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Donjon, to approve the minutes from the January 20, 2025, meeting. Carried

II. Departmental Activity Report

The monthly department activity report was included in the packets.

III. Rifle Proposal (Increased by One for a Total of Eight) – Loyal 9 Mfg. Chief Brittingham is asking to equip all the officers with the same rifle. Currently they all have different style rifles. They have the same shotguns. Donjon questioned why we are looking at purchasing from a San Antonio, TX company, is there no one local who sells these rifles? No one knew of a local gun dealer.

Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Donjon, to approve the proposal from Loyal 9 Mfg. for the purchase of eight rifles, NTE $18,000. Carried

IV. Public Comments/Anything for the Good of the City

None

The meeting was adjourned at 6:31 P.M.
