Monroe County taxpayers paid $897,695 in County Flood Protection Tax in 2023, according to Illinois tax records.

This figure marks a significant increase over the previous year, when County Flood Protection Tax collection stood at $854,615.

The County Flood Protection Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for other taxing jurisdictions' use.

As of 2021, Illinois was the highest taxed state in the US. A study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes were 39.83% higher than the national average.
