Illinois State Representative David Friess has joined with Scheibe to warn about the dangers posed by a scour hole near the Stringtown Levee. Both officials have been seeking help from government agencies for funding to address the issue, as the Stringtown Levee District does not have enough resources to repair it.
Despite their efforts, Friess and Schiebe expressed disappointment over what they described as a lack of urgency from agencies. “IEMA, FEMA, Corps of Engineers,” Friess said. “They’ve all said this isn’t our job because we don’t have the authorization to be proactive and to fix this situation and fix the scour hole. But don’t worry, when the levee blows, we will be there for you.”
Friess is asking members of the public to contact Governor J.B. Pritzker’s office in hopes of securing emergency funds before further damage occurs. “I believe he’s got the authorization,” Friess told FOX 2. “To get this done, get this fixed.”
Friess was elected as a Republican representative in 2023 for Illinois’ 115th House District, succeeding Nathan Reitz.
