Illinois State Representative David Friess has announced his opposition to any proposals that would increase taxes or expand government spending during the final week of the Veto Session in Springfield. Friess criticized what he described as repeated political rhetoric from Democratic lawmakers and pointed to Governor J.B. Pritzker’s fiscal year 2026 budget, saying it prioritized increased spending and higher taxes.

In a statement, Friess said, “Pritzker’s failed FY26 budget showed their priorities: more spending, higher taxes, and broken promises, and now we’re seeing it again. I’ll be voting NO on any plan that raises taxes or grows government at the expense of hardworking Illinois families.”

Friess was elected as a Republican representative to the Illinois State House in 2023 for the state’s 115th House District, taking over from Nathan Reitz.
