Veteran

Songs 4 Soldiers has helped 38 veterans with more $80,000, said the group's President Dustin Row.

Row made the announcement during a recent meeting of the Committee of the Whole of the City Council of the City of Columbia, Illinois.

He further noted there will be changes for the upcoming 2016 Songs 4 Soldiers event to be held Sept. 10.

The Special Event permit application has been submitted to Community Relations and Tourism Coordinator Sue Spargo. City Administrator James Morani said that the application had not been distributed to the committee since it was going to the department heads first for review.

In the meeting, Director of Community and Economic Development Paul Ellis distributed a handout to the committee. It was the preliminary schedule for adopting the TIF Redevelopment Plan and Project for the Main Street Abbey Redevelopment Project area from PGAV Planners Director Michael Weber. A public hearing has been tentatively scheduled for April 4.

Ellis informed the committee that Mayor Kevin Hutchinson and Gregg Crawford, the developer, had a successful meeting with Main Street merchants.

Building Inspector Justin Osterhage told the committee that he had met with the Street Graphics Committee several times. His meetings were about the Sign Code (Electronic Message Displays).
