Elverado Community Unified School District 196 Board of Education met Sept. 15.

Here is the minutes as provided by the Board:

The meeting was called to order at: 6:00 P.M. President Schafer.

1. Members in attendance: Mr. Bernardini, present; Mr. Funk, present; Mrs. Jeschke, absent; Mr. Keith, present; Mr. Schafer, present; Mrs. Sherman, absent; Mr. Wisely, absent. Others in attendance: Superintendent, Kevin Spain; Principals, Jeremy Pierce and Belinda Conner. Visitors: Cheryl Jones.

2. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Keith to approve the consent agenda of the following items: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5. Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes. Motion carried.

3. Administrators discussed their monthly reports.

4. The Board discussed the pros and cons of holding school August 21, 2017(Solar Eclipse) and potential liabilities.

5. A motion was made by Mr. Funk and seconded by Mr. Keith to adopt the school Board Policies – 2:70, 2:70-E, 2:120-E1, 2:120-E2, 2:240-E1, 2:240-E2, 6:100, 7:10, 7:10-E, 8:110. Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes. Motion carried.

6. A motion was made by Mr. Keith and seconded by Mr. Bernardini to adopt the FY17 School District Budget. Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes. Motion carried.

7. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Funk to accept the proposal from Security Alarm to replace the EIS security camera system for $9.050. Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes. Motion carried.

8. A motion was made by Mr. Keith and seconded by Mr. Funk to approve the Application for Recognition of Schools for 2016-2017. Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes. Motion carried.

9. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Keith to approve the changes to the Illinois Association of School Boards Shawnee Division by laws, and authorizing Kevin Spain as Board Proxy. Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes. Motion carried.

10. The Board discussed the County School Facility Sales Tax

11. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Funk to adjourn to closed session to discuss: The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body and collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees. Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes. Motion carried.

12. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Funk to return to open session at 7:50 p.m. By voice vote all members voted “yea” to return to open session. No action was taken.

13. A motion was made by Mr. Keith and seconded by Mr. Funk to employ Troy Stewart as EJHS assistant Baseball Coach. Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes. Motion carried.

14. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Keith to employ Alec Valerius as EJHS assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach. Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes. Motion carried.

15. A motion was made by Mr. Funk and seconded by Mr. Bernardini to employ Zach Halterman as EHS assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach. Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes. Motion carried.

16. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Keith to employ Betty Jo Roberts as Instructional Aide. Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes. Motion carried.

17. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Keith to employ Gary Pate as Instructional Aide. Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes. Motion carried.

18. A motion was made by Mr. Funk and seconded by Mr. Bernardini to employ Greg Berner as EHS Bass Coach. Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes. Motion carried.

19. A motion was made by Mr. Keith and seconded by Mr. Funk to approve a 2.27% salary increase for the District Secretary. Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mr. Keith, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes. Motion carried.

20. A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Funk to adjourn at 8:08 p.m. with the next regular meeting scheduled at 6:00 pm on October 20, 2016. All members voted “yea” by voice vote. Motion carried.
