Hundreds of southern Illinois residents offered opposing thoughts on Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's recent decision to not seek re-election, posting their comments on WSIL 3 ABC’s Facebook page.

“Good riddance to bad rubbish, but I’m sure she’s eyeing another office (probably governor) and the hoopleheads will fall all over themselves to vote for her,” John Hall wrote.

Some respondents said they'd like to see her father, House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), resign as well.

“1 down 1 to go!!! Best news I’ve heard today,” Vicki Fitzgerald Hill posted.

"She didn't say she wouldn't run for a different office and wouldn't be even more of a problem," Dave Sullivan Sr. wrote. "Pray her and her dad get the boot so we can start to rebuild Illinois."

Others, however, defended Lisa Madigan's tenure, even if not supporting her father.

“All of the folks yelling 'good riddance' in this thread probably couldn’t tell you one real factual thing about her performance that they hated, other than she was related to her father,” Christopher Denault posted. “I simply ask that each of these naysayers look at her profile and bio and see for themselves what she’d done for the state of Illinois during her tenure.”

“Does anyone commenting on this thread actually know one single thing regarding Ms. Madigan’s political track record,” Winton Jones added. “I seriously doubt it. Sad.”

“It’s possible to not be a fan her dad (I’m not) and think she has been a good AG (I do),” Robert Morwell wrote.

Madigan has been the attorney general for 14 years. Her term will expire in January 2019.
