Mt. Vernon residents may burn leaves from "sunrise to sunset" during the week of Nov. 13-19, according to a city announcement.
No burning is allowed on public streets. Residents must also refrain from burning debris on the property of others without written permission. All fires also must be overseen by someone at least 18 years old.
City officials also have established new prohibited parking zones for some streets, including the east side of 10th Street from Main to Broadway, the south side of Main Street from the west side of Jefferson County Courthouse steps to 10th Street, the south side of Mannen Street from 27th Street to Logan Street, the west side of 19th Street from Logan Street to Perkins Avenue, both sides of 22nd Street from Broadway to Perkins Avenue, both sides of 24th Street from Broadway to Perkins Avenue, the east side of 26th Street from Perkins Avenue to Forest Avenue, both sides of 26th Street from Forest Avenue to Veterans Memorial Drive, and the south side of Casey Avenue from 19th Street to 27th Street.
