Columbia Public Library Board of Trustees met December 12. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The December meeting of the Columbia Public Library Board was called to order by President Dan Brutton at 7:05. In attendance were Shane Watson, Annette Bland, Cindy Waldemer, Kathleen Habermehl, Dan Brutton and Diane Stechmesser.


1. Approval of Minutes Motion was made by Diane and seconded by Cindy to approve minutes. Motion passed.

2. Public Comment No one submitted request to comment. 

3. Treasurer's Report In Rodney's absence, Board reviewed his notes and numbers. Expenses were below number budgeted. 

4. Approval of Current Bills Kathleen made motion to approve payment of bills. Cindy seconded. Motion passed. 

5. Old Business 

New Library Trustee David Jackson is the new library trustee. He has submitted his paperwork to the city and may be at the next meeting. 

Active Shooter Training The staff participated in training session provided by Columbia Police Department. Annette will be in contact with them to do a more specific training drill for the library. 

6. New Business

Florence Haberl Memorial Florence served on the Board for 25 years and was a former member of the Friends of the Library as well as an Assistant Librarian to Jean Henderson. A motion was made by Kathleen and seconded by Diane to donate $100 to the Library Fund in her memory. 

Friends of the Library The Friends organization has donated $7,000 towards library programs for the upcoming year. 

Per Capita Report The report deadline is January 15, 2018. 

Per Capita Funds 2017 Illinois State Library has indicated that funds are slowly being disbursed. A timeline is not available. 

Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) System shared information about how many items were shared and number of current members. They reported 4.2 million items were loaned last year and 518 members. 

Events Eleven programs are scheduled for January. They are listed in library flyer for January and February.

7. Adjournment Diane made motion to adjourn. Kathleen seconded. Meeting adjourned at 7:25.
