Report: Sparta spent $9,606 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Sparta Community Unit School District 140 is down 4 percent from five years ago, according to a SW Illinois News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Randolph County school district spent $10,028 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $9,606 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 1327 to 1244.

Sparta's spending in 2016-17 was 26 percent lower than the state average of $12,973.
