Steeleville VFD responds to 27 fires in 2017

Steeleville Volunteer Fire Department responded to 30 calls in 2017 - 87.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Steeleville included 27 fires - 12 structure fires, one vehicle fire and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $588,500 in fire loss - or about $21,796 per fire.

The department also received two false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.
