David Friess, the Republican House candidate for Illinois’ 116th District, recently traveled to Waterloo to team up with U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Illinois) in his campaign to flip Democratic control of state government.

“The folks of Monroe County understand that we need to elect real conservatives and not Nancy Pelosi and Mike Madigan supporting [sic] Democrats!” Friess posted on Facebook.

Friess, a Red Bud attorney and former Desert Storm Air Force crew chief who ran unopposed in the March primary, wrote on his campaign website that he sees the election as a “new battlefield.”

“It is the career politicians versus us, the people,” he said. “Unfortunately, the political class has been winning the battles — driving up our taxes, driving out jobs, racking up our debt and underfunding our rural schools.”

Friess is challenging incumbent Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Red Bud) in November’s general election.

He also recently visited the Du Quoin State Fair on Aug. 31, “talking to voters, eating good food and hanging out with state Rep. Dave Severin (R-Marion)!” he posted on Facebook.

The 116th House District includes all of Monroe and Randolph counties, as well as parts of Perry and St. Clair counties.
