Republican House candidate David Friess debuted a new TV spot last week criticizing Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Red Bud) for his voting record.
The new advertisement is in response to "false negative ads" by Costello's re-election campaign, Friess said.
The video was recently posted on Facebook and ties the incumbent to longtime Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago).

“Costello’s running from his record with false negative ads,” the advertisement states. “Costello voted three times to make Madigan speaker — bought and paid for with over $200,000 in dirty Madigan money.”
Friess also accuses Costello of supporting Madigan's tax increases and budget plans.
“Costello voted with Madigan for higher income taxes,” the video states. “Costello backed Madigan’s budgets, adding billions more in debt. We can’t send him back to Springfield.”
Friess is running against Costello for the 116th district seat in the Nov. 6 general election. The district includes Chester, Columbia, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Red Bud, Sparta and Waterloo.
