With less than a week left before voters go to the polls, Smithton state House candidate Jerry Costello II received another $499,491 from Illinois House Speaker and Democrat Party Chief Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) between Oct. 18 and Oct. 26, state filings show.

The Madigan funding was disclosed in reports filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) by Friends of Jerry Costello II, the campaign committee that supports Costello's race against Republican David Friess in the 116 House District.

The district covers all or part of Chester, Columbia, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Red Bud, Sparta and Waterloo.

Jerry Costello II has received a total of $1,159,008 from House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Madigan’s contributions to Costello came from the campaign funds he controls, including his own committee, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, the Illinois Democratic Party and the Democratic County Chairman’s Association of Illinois. In all, Madigan has contributed $677,189 to the candidate’s campaign this election cycle.

Madigan spent $6.5 million on 24 candidates between Oct 18 and Oct 30, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections. He has spent $15.84 million backing campaigns for 25 candidates this election cycle, thus far.
