Report: Sparta spent $10,385 per student in 2017-18

Spending per pupil at Sparta Community Unit School District 140 is up 6.2 percent from five years ago, according to a SW Illinois News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2017-18 report card shows the Randolph County school district spent $9,776 per pupil in 2013-14. It spent $10,385 in 2017-18.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 1293 to 1229.

Sparta's spending in 2017-18 was 22.1 percent lower than the state average of $13,337.
