The meeting was called to order by Alderman Notheisen at 6:45pm. In attendance were committee members Aldermen Darter, Thomas, Hopkins and Heller. Also in attendance from the City were Shawn Kennedy, Tim Birk, Aldermen Buettner, Row and Trantham and Mayor Smith. Also in attendance were Attorney Dan Hayes and from CenterPoint Energy Blake Bastien.
Minutes from the October 4th meeting were previously approved at the October Utility Meeting.
Blake discussed the current status of the issues with (MRT) Mississippi River Transportation, our natural gas pipeline. The City, along with several other small cities in the bi-state area, have protested to FERC (Federal Energy Regulation Commission), the numerous changes that have been imposed on natural gas customers of MRT. Blake along with Dan Hayes and outside attorneys have represented our case to FERC. We continue to protest the enormous increases that are being imposed.
Chairman Notheisen distributed the planned purchase of Natural Gas Futures and led a discussion about said purchase. A motion was made by Alderman Hopkins and seconded by Alderman Thomas. The purchase recommendation was approved with a vote of 4-1, with Alderman Darter voting no.
The Chairman also discussed the favorable results of the Gas Department’s annual performance in terms of dollars and cents. The Gas Department had positive cash flow (income and depreciation) of over $415,000.
Tim also updated the committee on the progress of installing automated metering for our gas customers, which had not progressed much.
Motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Thomas and seconded by Alderman Heller. Motion passed 5-0. Meeting was adjourned at 7:18.
