The price of local government in 2017: City of Du Quoin

The City of Du Quoin budget was $7.42 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $3,021 per household.

That's a decrease of 15.2 percent from 2016, when the city spent $8.75 million, or $3,562 per household.

Du Quoin has 2,457 households and a population of 6,084.

Since 2001, the City of Du Quoin budget has grown by 13.8 percent, from $6.53 million. The city population has fallen 8.5 percent over the same period, from 6,648.

Salaries accounted for 37.4 percent of city spending in 2017. Du Quoin property taxpayers paid $2.77 million for 40 full-time employees and 17 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 41 full-time employees and 33 part-time employees, and spent $2.12 million.
