Pinckneyville Community High School District #101 Board of Education met March 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Pinckneyville Community High School District #101, Perry County, Illinois, met in a regular session on the 25th of March, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at the Pinckneyville Community High School in that district. The following officers and members of the Board were present: Greg Thompson, President; Lisa Stanton, Secretary; Brian Kellerman, Jennifer Robb, Kyle Pursell, and Greg Bigham. Keith Hagene, Superintendent, Tony Wilson, Principal, and Penny Corn, recording secretary, were also present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was conducted and PCHS Mission Statement was read by President Greg Thompson.

It was moved by Kyle Pursell and seconded by Jeff Suchomski to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Kyle Pursell, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

Visitors present: Steve Williamson, Marilyn Smith, and Stuart Morgenstern.

Visitors were welcomed and invited to address the Board. Steve Williamson asked Mr. Hagene about the budget.

Mr. Wilson reported that two students, Seldyn Starkweather and Jade Riley were selected as finalists in a national art competition, and one of Ms. McCann’s art classes has been selected as one of 50 school finalists in a Vans shoe national competition. He expressed his pride for the program and our students’ talent. He also bragged on the musical, which was performed recently. He and Mr. Hagene reported on the presentation by Christina Jones, who is a national archery champion who uses a mouth tab. She presented an inspirational clinic for our area shooters. That same day FFA held their annual Drive Your Tractor to School Day, and led a petting zoo for local youngsters.

Mr. Hagene reported on his trip to Springfield, and budget development for the next school year. He talked about his plan to purchase Chromebooks, and repairing the band room roof.

There was one FOIA request this month, which was answered.

It was moved by Kyle Pursell and seconded by Lisa Stanton to approve the overnight and out of state trips as presented. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Lisa Stanton and seconded by Jennifer Robb to amend the school year 2018-2019 calendar as presented. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Greg Bigham and seconded by Kyle Pursell to adopt the school year 2019-2020 calendar as presented. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Lisa Stanton and seconded by Brian Kellerman to approve the IHSA membership renewal as presented. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Kyle Pursell to adopt Resolution R2019 as presented. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Kyle Pursell, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

A first reading of policy updates was conducted by Mr. Hagene.

It was moved by Lisa Stanton and seconded by Kyle Pursell to enter closed session at 7:15 pm for the purposes of discussing, appointment, employment, compensation and performance of personnel. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Kyle Pursell, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Jennifer Robb and seconded by Kyle Pursell to return to open session at 8:22 pm. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Lisa Stanton and seconded by Jennifer Robb to approve the employment of Ms. Emily Campbell as Social Studies Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Kyle Pursell, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Greg Bigham and seconded by Kyle Pursell to approve the employment of Mr. Zach Essex as Health/Driver Education Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Kyle Pursell, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Kyle Pursell to approve the employment of Mr. Rich Williams as physical Education Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.

Roll call: Lisa Stanton, no; Greg Thompson, yes; Greg Bigham, no; Kyle Pursell, yes; Jennifer Robb, no; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. 4 Ayes. 3 Nays. Motion carried.

The Board adopted Resolution R-2019-3.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Lisa Stanton to adjourn the meeting at 8:34 pm. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.
