City of Waterloo Gas Committee met July 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The meeting was called to order by Alderman Notheisen at 6:30pm. In attendance were committee members Aldermen Darter, Thomas, Trantham and Heller. Also in attendance from the City were Shawn Kennedy, City Attorney Dan Hayes and Mayor Tom Smith.

Minutes from the April 1st meeting were previously approved at the April Utility Meeting.

Chairman Notheisen distributed the planned purchase of Natural Gas Futures and led a discussion about said purchase. A motion was made by Alderman Thomas and seconded by Alderman Trantham. The purchase recommendation was approved with a vote of 4-1, with Alderman Darter voting no.

Shawn updated the committee on the progress of installing automated metering for our gas customers. We now have installed over half of dials to existing meters and will continue to work toward completion by the end of summer or early fall.

Alderman Notheisen led a lively discussion on how to handle what he believes to be excess cash in the Gas Fund. There was no consensus on how to deal with excess funds.

Motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Thomas and seconded by Alderman Heller. Motion passed 5-0. Meeting was adjourned at 7:10.
