State Rep. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) recently sent a letter to Gov. J.B. Pritzker requesting an extension on the expiration dates on firearm owner identification cards.
Bryant asked for a 90-day extension during the COVID-19 crisis. She wrote that the extension is "critical during the COVID-19 crisis" as gun owners are worried that because they aren't able to renew their cards and their concealed carry permits, they will no longer be recognized as legal gun owners.
"The purpose of this letter is to ask that you take specific executive action to extend expiration dates for firearm owner’s identification cards (FOID), and concealed carry licenses (CCL)," the letter read. "The extension of these dates is critical during the COVID-19 crisis, as law-abiding gun owners face the uncertainty that comes with holding an expired card."
Bryant also said there was already a massive backlog of applications before the coronavirus outbreak,
"As you are aware, prior to the COVID-19 crisis, there was already a massive backlog that forced law-abiding gun owners to wait extended periods of time before receiving their renewed license," she added.
