Columbia Public Library Board of Trustees met March 10.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

The March meeting of the Columbia Public Library Board was called to order by President Dan Brutton at 7:05. Those in attendance included Shane Watson, Dan Brutton, Kathleen Habermehl, Annette Bland, Diane Stechmesser, Rodney Schreckenberg, and Cindy Waldemer. Because not enough Board members were present at the February meeting, this meeting included items not voted on previously.

1. Approval of Minutes The Board reviewed the minutes of the January meeting. Kathleen Habermehl made motion to approve. Rodney Schreckenberg seconded. Motion passed. February meeting minutes were reviewed. Kathleen Habermehl made motion to approve. Shane Watson seconded. Motion passed.

2. Public Comment No requests were made to address the Board.

3. Treasurer’s Report The January report was reviewed. Diane Stechmesser made motion to approve. Shane Watson seconded. Motion passed. The February report was reviewed. Shane Watson made motion to approve. Kathleen Habermehl seconded. Motion passed.

4. Approval of Current Bills Shane Watson made motion to approve payment of January bills. Diane Stechmesser seconded. Motion passed. Shane Watson made motion to approve payment of February bills. Rodney Schreckenberg seconded. Motion passed.

5. New Business

Budget The Board reviewed and discussed the proposed budget for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Diane Stechmesser made motion to approve proposed budget. Cindy Waldemer seconded. Motion passed.

Basement Policy Section e of the Policy for Community Use of Lower Level Meeting Room was amended after Board discussion to limit reservation of area to Columbia Public Library card holders. Diane Stechmesser made motion to approve change. Shane Watson seconded. Motion passed.

Regions Checking Account The Board Treasurer was added to account in addition to Library Director and Assistant Director.

Outreach After discussion the Board decided that any programs conducted outside of the Columbia School District would need Board approval.

Volunteers A letter was received from the Department of the Army about a claim for one of the library’s volunteers who was injured last October. The claim is currently being handled by the City of Columbia. A waiver form had been signed. The Board reviewed the present waiver form. Special Story Times Assistant Director Crystal Snyder presented information on a story time that will be presented April 20 about personal space and safety to 19 mos.-3 year and 3-5-year-old children. Kathleen Habermehl suggested a speaker from the local area who has written a book about being a parent of a transgender child. This would be for a future presentation at the library.

6. Adjournment Diane Stechmesser made motion to adjourn. Cindy Waldemer seconded. Meeting was adjourned at 8:05. Next meeting April 14, 2020.
