City of Waterloo Street Committee Met September 8

City of Waterloo Street Committee met Sept. 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Aldermen Attending: J.Trantham Chairman, R. Thomas, C. Heller, R. Row, K. Buettner, J. Hopkins and S. Darter.

Mayor Smith, Budget Director Shawn Kennedy and Public Works Director Tim Birk present. 

Petitions by citizens on non agenda items - None

Grand Avenue Alley - Tim explained that the alley could be ground off and reshaped in the next year budget. He advised it would be graded to have a crown and then rolled down to pack. It would be graded for runoff of water.

No Parking - South side of Poplar Street - Jim Hopkins advised he had a signed request from citizens who live on Poplar Street to make the street No Parking on the South side of the street. Mayor Smith noted that there were only two signatures on the request and he asked Jim to contact all the homeowners on the street for their signatures. The mayor advised we can discuss it further at the utility meeting.

Proposals for guard rail replacement - Tim Birk discussed the mandated need for the guard rails and the costs involved. He advised that the three locations are on Moore St., Gall Rd. and West Lakes Dam Road. The accepted bid is $35,018.25 by Illini Excavation.

Task Order #7 - To reconstruct Morrison Ave. from Rt. 156 to Hartman including curb and gutter. Approximate cost $700,000.00. Motion by Ald. Buettner to approve, 2nd by Ald. Heller with unanimous approval.

Task Order #8 - Engineering and Design for sidewalks from Walgreens to HH Road on the East side of North Market Street. Motion by Ald. Row to approve, 2nd by Ald. Heller with unanimous approval,

Task Order #10 - $450,000.00 engineering fees received for phase 7 of the Moore Street improvement from North of Gibault High School to Rt.3. Motion to approve by Ald.Heller, 2nd by Ald. Thomas with unanimous approval.

Comments - Mayor Smith stated that the Washington/Adams area of overlay looks good and we should look to do more overlay in future budgets. He further stated that they are looking at spending Building Illinois funds on Morrison Avenue for updates to that street.

Ald. Row advised that he has been contacted by citizens for a request that stop signs be placed on Sycamore Street where Yield signs are now located. This request will have to be directed to the Ordinance Committee.

Motion by Ald. Row to close the committee meeting, 2nd by Ald. Heller with unanimous approval at 7:15 p.m.
