Rep. David Friess (R-Red Bud) recently congratulated Thomas Welge, CEO of Gilster-Mary Lee Corp., who received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Illinois Manufacturers Association.
“Entrepreneurs like Mr. Welge help to fuel a healthy economy and I am grateful for people like him." Friess wrote on Facebook.
The Gilster-Mary Lee Corporation dates back to 1895, as the Gilster Milling Company. It has become a leading private-label food manufacturer.
Friess has recently been exploring the boundaries of his new district and has found little to complain about, based on an August Facebook post.
“It is hard to complain about the boundaries of my new district since they drew 17th Street BBQ into my district,” the post read. “Miki and I were in Murphysboro yesterday and had to stop in for some pulled pork. I am looking forward to representing the new 115th District.”
Friess ran uncontested during the June primary election and is running uncontested again for the Nov. 8 general election.
Early this month, Friess spent some time at the Du Quoin State Fair.
“Another nice day at the DuQuoin State Fair on Republican Day,” Friess wrote on Facebook. “It was nice to visit with State Rep Charlie Meier and Tom Demmer, candidate for Treasurer. I also ran into some Monroe County folks — Ed McLean and Neal Rohlfing. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for the BBQ.”
