City of Red Bud Public Park and Recreation Committee met Sept. 9.

Members present: Jim Birke, Tim Fahey, Kyle Herriman, Wil Krick, Deb Opel, and Terri Reed
Members absent: Kevin Cartee, Ryan Kodela and Winnie Rehmer
Others Present: Kyle Donjon, Susan Harbaugh, Jeremy DeMond, and Kristine Fulford, Executive Director of YMCA
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tim Fahey at 6:30 PM at Lincoln Park Minutes from the June meeting were approved as read.
Parks and Recreation Committee received a text from Kevin Cartee. He stated he is resigning his position from the committee because he will be moving from Red Bud. He thanked the board for the privilege of serving on the P&R Committee. Deb Opel made a motion, seconded by Terri Reed to accept his resignation. Motion carried unanimously. Discussion of a replacement followed. Tim will follow up on suggestions.
Tim shared the letter from the IDNR on the status of receiving our ISLAD Grant Award of $400,000. Our project was one of 87 outdoor recreation projects, representing $30.3 million in funding assistance approved. We will proceed with plans once we receive detailed information and instructions concerning implementation of our project and program compliance responsibilities. We will have two years to complete project once that letter is received. The R&P committee is very excited about receiving this grant.
POOL
Kristine Fulford presented a summary of pool finances for the 2022 season. Financial statement is not final. She discussed ideas for improvements for the 2023 year.
She also reported that the soccer goals at Ratz Park are not regulation size. The YMCA is requesting that they be allowed to purchase correct sized goals and install them permanently. Wil Krick made a motion, seconded by Kyle Herriman, to allow the YMCA to purchase and permanently install correct sized goals at Lincoln Park. Motion carried unanimously.
RATZ PARK
• Work Day scheduled September 17th, 9:00-12:00
-mulch, creek bed cleared, slide painted, some posts need to be touched up, floors of pavilions need to be washed and stripped of graffitti.
• Several dead trees need to be removed. Jim Birke made a motion, seconded by Wil Krick to recommend to City Council to hire someone to remove dead trees at Ratz Park. Motion carried unanimously.
• Tim sanded and painted the two picnic tables on concrete pad outside pool fence.
LINCOLN PARK
• Pickleball courts are complete.
• Chamber Fest will be held at Lincoln Park, October 21st and 22nd.
• Deb Opel made a motion, seconded by Kyle Herriman, to remove the two small grills at Fred Miller Pavillion (#1) and replace with one large grill. Motion carried unanimously.
• Discussion of lack of light around the bathrooms. Wil Krick made a motion, seconded by Terri Reed to install lights around the bathroom for safety reasons. Motion carried.
SPORTS PLEX
• City council approved money for dirt
• Kyle said they would like to use money to put a second outdoor batting cage next to the existing cage.
• Will receive new turf, and new netting in spring from RBHS. Donations will help with expenses.
NEXT REGULAR MEETING scheduled for October 5, 6:30 at City Hall
