State Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) took aim at Democrats for voting themselves a pay raise during the final hours of the lame duck session.
“On a partisan roll call, late on Friday night in the waning hours of the Lame Duck Session, Democrats showed just how out of touch they are with working people and families,” Jacobs said in a news release.
According to the Illinois Legislature website, Senate Bill 1720, filed Jan. 6 by state Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) established pay increases for legislators and several department heads, including the Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Aging, Department of Agriculture and several others.
Statewide office holders getting pay hikes under the bill, according to an NPR report, include the lieutenant governor, comptroller and treasurer, who will see their annual salary increase from $143,400 to $160,900, and the secretary of state and attorney general, whose pay will increase from $165,400 to $183,300.
According to a report by the State Journal-Register, the increases took effect Jan 9 for statewide office holders and were effective Jan. 4 for lawmakers.
Jacobs, according to the Illinois General Assembly website, was first elected to the Illinois House in 2020, and has served on several committees, including Tourism and Higher Education.
