Sparta Community Unit School District #140 Board of Education met Jan. 4.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The special meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m. by Vice President Kevin Holliday and upon the roll being called, Kevin Holliday and the following members of the Board of Education answered present: Mekalia Cooper, Angela Craig, Howard Gallois, Ron Heinen and Jennifer Morgan. Absent: Corey Rheinecker. Others present were: Superintendent Dr. Gabrielle Schwemmer; Recording Secretary Tina Witherby and Principal Scott Beckley.
Howard Gallois moved, Jennifer Morgan seconded to enter into closed session at 4:02 p.m. to discuss student discipline cases and the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body. Roll call vote. Yeas: Gallois, Morgan, Heinen, Cooper, Craig and Holliday. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Jennifer Morgan moved, Mekalia Cooper seconded to come out of executive session at 4:12 p.m. Roll call vote. Yeas: Morgan, Cooper, Craig, Gallois, Heinen and Holliday. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Mekalia Cooper moved, Howard Gallois seconded to expel Student #2223-03 for two years. The expulsion will be stayed upon successful completion of attendance at CCSI. Roll call vote. Yeas: Cooper, Gallois, Craig, Heinen, Morgan and Holliday. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Angela Craig moved, Jennifer Morgan seconded to employ Lacie Schneider as a Full-Time Teacher for the District with no experience for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year, subject to and contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check, physical and drug screening, along with proper licensure. Roll call vote: Yeas: Craig, Morgan, Gallois, Heinen, Cooper and Holliday. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Kevin Holliday moved, Jennifer Morgan seconded to adjourn the meeting at 4:15 p.m. Roll call vote: Yeas: Holliday, Morgan, Heinen, Cooper, Craig and Gallois. Nays: none. Motion carried.
