Sparta Community Unit School District #140 Board of Education met Aug. 3.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The special meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by President Angela Craig and upon the roll being called, Angela Craig and the following members of the Board of Education answered present: Mekalia Cooper, Jennifer Morgan, Ryan Pillers, Heather Price and Rob Soderlund. Absent: none. Others present were: Superintendent Chris Miesner, Recording Secretary Tina Witherby and members of the community and faculty.
Superintendent Miesner gave a construction update. The bleachers still need to be installed. The basketball hoops will have metal brackets installed so they do not move as much. September 20, 2023, is the date it should be completed now. The district will have to extend the payments to Holland Construction through that time. Contingency money will cover most of it.
Rob Soderlund moved; Heather Price seconded to enter into closed session at 5:05 p.m. to discuss items related to the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body and the selection of a person to fill a public office. Roll call vote. Yeas: Soderlund, Price, Cooper, Morgan, Pillers and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Mekalia Cooper moved; Heather Price seconded to come out of executive session at 6:31 p.m. Roll call vote. Yeas: Cooper, Price, Soderlund, Morgan, Pillers and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Jennifer Morgan moved; Rob Soderlund seconded to employ Chelsey Wine as a Full-Time Teacher with the District for the 2023-2024 school year with 6 years of experience, subject to and contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check, employment history review, physical and drug screening, along with proper licensure. Yeas: Morgan, Soderlund, Pillers, Price, Cooper and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Mekalia Cooper moved; Heather Price seconded to employ Jamie Wildermuth as a full-time Teacher for the district for the 2023-2024 school year with 9 years of experience, subject to and contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check, employment history review, physical and drug screening along with proper licensure. Yeas: Cooper, Price, Morgan, Pillers, Soderlund and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Mekalia Cooper moved; Rob Soderlund seconded to appoint Corey Rheinecker to serve the remainder of Howard Gallois’ term on the Board of Education until April 2025. Roll call vote. Yeas: Cooper, Soderlund, Pillers and Craig. Nays: Morgan and Price. Motion carried.
Rob Soderlund moved; Mekalia Cooper seconded to approve Jennifer Rheinecker as Girls’ Golf Coach at Sparta High School for the 2023-2024 school year. Roll call vote. Yeas: Soderlund, Cooper, Pillers and Craig. Nays: Morgan and Price. Motion carried.
Mekalia Cooper moved; Heather Price seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:33 p.m. Roll call vote: Yeas: Cooper, Price, Morgan, Pillers, Soderlund and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.
