The Illinois General Assembly is gearing up for the start of its 2024 Spring Session, with the Illinois House of Representatives reconvening today at 2pm. As the session begins, the primary focus of the House will be to hear newly introduced bills and assign them to House committees.

House members have been working diligently to draft and introduce their bills in time for consideration this spring. The deadline for bill introduction is Friday, February 9, giving lawmakers a limited window to present their proposed legislation. Once introduced, these bills will be assigned to standing committees where they will undergo further scrutiny and potential amendment.

One of the key upcoming events in the legislative calendar is Governor Pritzker's presentation of the FY25 budget and delivery of the State of the State address. This joint session of the Illinois General Assembly, scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, will provide an opportunity for the Governor to outline his priorities for the upcoming fiscal year and address the state's current challenges.

Following the State of the State address, the House will embark on a series of hearings for committee bill action. It is during these hearings that House bills often undergo significant amendments before they are brought to the floor for further debate and voting.

The Illinois House has released its schedule for the spring 2024 session, providing a roadmap for the legislative activities that will take place in the coming months. Lawmakers and citizens alike can access the schedule on the official Illinois General Assembly website.
