FOIA Request Sent to City Of Du Quoin Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Du Quoin Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government, we at SW Illinois News have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Du Quoin Finance Department. The request, sent on October 31, 2024, seeks comprehensive records related to city sales tax collected from January 1, 2023, through October 31, 2024.

Specifically, we are seeking an electronic format list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city during this period. This list should include the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each entity. In addition to this detailed breakdown, we have also requested the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within the specified timeframe.

As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as a media organization disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under FOIA provisions for media professionals. We await a response from the City Of Du Quoin Finance Department and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
