FOIA Request to City of Columbia Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Illinois News have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
The request specifically pertains to all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till the present date. The details requested include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property in question, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we have also requested information regarding all active residential and commercial building permits and their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits as well.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information.
