FOIA Request Sent to Randolph County Sheriff's Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025

FOIA Request to Randolph County Sheriff's Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.

In a bid to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at SW Illinois News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. The request, dated January 7, 2025, seeks comprehensive details about all arrests made in the county throughout the year 2024.

The specific records requested include a list of all arrests from January 1, 2024 till December 31, 2024. We are seeking information on the arrestee's name, arrest date, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.

As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. It enables us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public and our commitment towards promoting government transparency and accountability, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.

We await the response from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office regarding this request and will continue with our efforts to ensure that local government affairs remain transparent and accountable.
