Aledo Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education met Dec. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

On December 17, 2024 at 6:58 p.m. President Hoover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education. 

Roll Call

Members Present: Adina Hoover, Whitney Rogers, Jessica Radogno, Angela Steketee, Kevin Marren, Leah Conover 

Members Absent: Carlos Hevia 

Also present: Superintendent Jack Baldermann , Business Manager, Anthony Ruelli, the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt.

Pledge of Allegiance 

President Hoover led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

November 12, 2024 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Rogers, to approve the minutes of the November 12, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented. 

Ayes: Hoover, Rogers, Radogno, Steketee, Marren, Conover 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried

November 12, 2024 - Closed 

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the NOvember 12, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented. 

Ayes: Hoover, Rogers, Radogno, Steketee, Marren, Conover 

Nays: None 

Motion Carried. 

November 26, 2024 

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the November 26, 2024, special meeting of the Board of Education, as presented. 

Ayes: Hoover, Rogers, Radogno, Steketee, Marren, Conover 

Nays: None

Motion Carried.

November 26, 2024 - Closed 

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the November 26, 2024, special meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

CONSENT AGENDA 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Rogers, to approve the consent agenda as presented: 

1. Personnel Recommendations:

PUBLIC HEARING ON TENTATIVE TAX LEVY 

Conduct the Public Hearing on the Tentative 2024 Tax Levy 

The President of the Board of Education, Adina Hoover, calls the Public Hearing to order regarding the proposed 2024 Tax Levy at 7:11 p.m. 

Business Manager Anthony Ruelli reviewed the proposed 2024 Tax Levy. Mr. Ruelli gave a presentation to the Board to review the levy. 

The President asks if there are any additional comments from the members of the Board of Education regarding the proposed 2024 Tax Levy. Mr. Ruelli answered questions from the Board.

The President asks if there are any public comments concerning the proposed 2024 Tax Levy. There are no public comments. The President, Adina Hoover, then declares the Public Hearing on the proposed 2024 Tax Levy closed at 7:20 p.m. 

INFORMATION and DISCUSSION 

Facilities and Finance Committee Recap The Finance and Facilities Committee met prior to the Board meeting on December 17, 2024. The committee confirmed the dates of the Location Committee to be January 7 and 14, 2025, starting at 5:30. The Board and Superintendent Baldermann are securing a un-biased facilitator for the meetings. The Finance and Facility Committee also reviewed some dollar amounts for the referendum to be on the April ballot. Mr. Anthony Ruelli, Business Manager, presented two options with the dollar amounts. The Board would like to be mindful of the community when making the decision. The committee also would like for Mr. Ruelli to reach out to Legat Architects for a menu of items and pricing for starting to prepare renderings. 

Board Reporting from IASB Conference 

The Board attended the Annual Joint Conference in Chicago the weekend of November 22, 2024. Members shared out on the different sessions they attended. 

Referendum 

The Board discussed what the dollar will be on the April 1, 2025 Referendum. Board members agree they should ask for 

Mr. Ruelli answered questions from the Board. The 2024 Tax Levy will be presented at the December 17, 2024 Board meeting for approval.

1. Resolution to Adopt 2024 Tax Levy 

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Ms. Conover, to adopt the resolution setting the 2024 Tax Levy, as presented. 

Ayes: Radogno, Conover, Steketee, Marren, Hoover, Rogers 

Nays: None 

Motion Carried. 

2. Resolution Authorizing a Supplemental Tax Levy to Pay the Principal of and Interest on Outstanding Limited Bonds of Community Unit School District 201, Dupage County, Illinois 

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the resolution authorizing a supplemental tax levy to pay the principal of and interest on outstanding limited bonds of Community Unit School District Number 201, Dupage County, Illinois, as presented. 

Ayes: Radogno, Conover, Steketee, Marren, Hoover, Rogers

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

3. Approval of SSCIP Insurance Agreement Renewal 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Steketee, to approve the SSCIP Insurance renewal and Cyber Program in the combined amount of $181,343.00, as presented 

Ayes: Conover, Steketee, Marren, Hoover, Rogers, Radogno 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

4. Approval of Authorization for Treasurer to Pay Additional December 2024 Expenditures 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Rogers, to authorize and direct the Treasurer to pay bills received in December 2024 for this 2025 fiscal year, as presented. 

Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Hoover, Rogers, Radogno, Conover 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

5. Resolution providing for and requiring the submission of the proposition of issuing not to exceed $75,000,000 School Building Bonds to the Voters of the District at the general election to be held on the 1st day of April 2025 

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Mr, Marren, to approve the Resolution providing for and requiring the submission of the proposition of issuing $68,000,000 School Building Bonds to the voters of Community Unit School District Number 20, DuPage County, Illinois, at the general election to be held on the 1st day of April, 2025. 

Ayes: Marren, Rogers, Radogno, Conover, Steketee, Hoover 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT 

Communication 

Superintendent Baldermann shared how the District has finished the 1st semester strong. The kids were outstanding and the student excellence is because of all the love and support they received from family, the community, teachers and staff.

None. 

BOARD REPORTS 

Dr. Adina Hoover has earned the 2024 Thomas Lay Burroughs Award. She will be honored and recognized at the Illinois State Board of Education meeting taking place on December 18, 2024 in Springfield. Dr. Hoover is honored and says this is a team award and she will receive the award on behalf of the team.

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Ms. Conover, to enter closed session to discuss Personnel Issues, Student Discipline, Sale or Lease of Real Property, and Potential Litigation.

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried 

The Board entered closed session at 8:13 p.m. 

The Board returned to open session at 9:18 p.m. 

COMMUNICATIONS 

None at this time. 

ADJOURNMENT 

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Ms. Steketee, to adjourn the December 17, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education at 9:22 p.m. 

Motion unanimously passed.
