Sparta Community Unit School District 140 Board of Education met March 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The special meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by President Angela Craig and upon the roll being called, Angela Craig and the following members of the Board of Education answered present: Mekalia Cooper, Ryan Pillers and Rob Soderlund. Absent: Jennifer Allard, Heather Price and Corey Rheinecker. Others present were: Superintendent Chris Miesner and Recording Secretary Tina Witherby.

President Angela Craig led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rob Soderlund moved, Mekalia Cooper seconded to enter into closed session at 6:04 p.m. to discuss items related to the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body and collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. Roll call vote. Yeas: Soderlund, Cooper, Pillers and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Heather Price entered the closed session meeting at 6:05 p.m. Corey Rheinecker entered the closed session meeting at 6:05 p.m.

Mekalia Cooper moved, Heather Price seconded to come out of closed session at 7:45 p.m. Roll call vote. Yeas: Cooper, Price, Pillers, Rheinecker, Soderlund and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Corey Rheinecker moved, Heather Price seconded to approve Jerry Carpenter as a Volunteer Assistant Track Coach at Evansville Attendance Center for the 2024-2025 school year. Roll call vote. Yeas: Rheinecker, Price, Soderlund, Cooper, Pillers and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Mekalia Cooper moved, Heather Price seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:46 p.m. Roll call vote: Yeas: Cooper, Price, Pillers, Rheinecker, Soderlund and Craig. Nays: none. Motion carried.
