Alsip Hazelgreen Oaklawn School District 126 Board of Education met Aug. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 pm

ROLL CALL

Secretary Pierce called the roll.

Present: Marigrace Sinnott-Snooks, President

Joe LaChica, Vice President

Lori Pierce, Secretary

Muna Conley

Harry Tannehill

Jennifer Warrick

Thereses Zaker

Also Present: Sheila Harrison-Williams, BWP Associates

Mark Friedman, BWP Associates

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Board stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

CLOSED SESSION

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Muna Conley, "To go into Closed Session to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees in the district or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District determine its validity." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Sinnott-Snooks, Warrick, LaChica, Pierce, Conley. Nay: none. The motion carried 7-0 at 4:33pm.

Joe LaChica moved, seconded by Harry Tannehill, "To come out of closed session." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: LaChica, Warrick, Zaker, Tannehill, Pierce, Sinnott-Snooks, Conley. Nay: none. The motion carried 7-0 at 6:08 pm.

ADJOURNMENT

Muna Conley moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, "To adjourn the meeting". Upon roll call, the vote as follows: Aye: Tannehill, Pierce, Conley, Sinnott-Snooks. Nay: None. The motion carried 4-0 at 6:10 pm.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Joe LaChica moved, seconded by Harry Tannehill, "To approve the minutes of the June 12, 2025 Regular Board Meeting." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Sinnott-Snooks, Warrick, LaChica, Pierce, Conley. Nay: none. The motion carried 7-0.

Jennifer Warrick moved, seconded by Muna Conley, "To approve the minutes of the Special Meeting on July 22, 2025 Board Meeting." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Sinnott-Snooks, Zaker, Tannehill, Warrick, Zaker, Pierce, Conley. Abstain: LaChica, Tannehill. Nay: none. The motion carried 5-2-0.

CONSENT AGENDA

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, "To approve the Consent Agenda." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Sinnott-Snooks, Tannehill, LaChica, Zaker, Warrick, Pierce, Conley. Nay: none. The motion carried 7-0.

FOIA REQUESTS

Steve Gress reported from Smart Procure, Grace Hauck (2) and Star Bridge Data. We have responded in the required timeframe.

FINANCIAL

Joe LaChica moved, seconded by Harry Tannehill, "To ratify the July bills paid by the District and approved by the Superintendent for the dates of June 5 through July 18, 2025." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: LaChica, Warrick, Zaker, Tannehill, Pierce, Sinnott-Snooks, Conley. Nay: none. The motion carried 7-0.

EDUCATIONAL

Craig Gwaltney addressed the board regarding the current enrollment figures for this academic year. He indicated that the implementation of the new residency system has resulted in a decrease of 124 students.

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, "To approve the Prairie Junior High Field to Washington, DC from October 11th-15, 2025." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Warrick, Sinnott-Snooks, Zaker, Tannehill, Pierce, LaChica, Conley. Nay: none. The motion carried 4-0.

INFORMATIONAL

Craig mentioned the Notification of Mandated Reporter Status information is attached to the agenda for the board to read.

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

A parent from the district addressed the residency issue concerning her child, explaining that although she resides in Alsip, her child has been disenrolled. She expressed hope that the district will reconsider this decision.

Lori Pierce moved, seconded by Jennifer Warrick, "To come out of closed session." Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: LaChica, Warrick, Zaker, Tannehill, Pierce, Sinnott-Snooks, Conley. Nay: none. The motion carried 7-0 at 7:26 pm.

ADJOURNMENT

Muna Conley moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, "To adjourn the meeting". Upon roll call, the vote as follows: Aye: Tannehill, Pierce, Conley, Sinnott-Snooks. Nay: None. The motion carried 4-0 at 7:27 pm.
