City of Waterloo Ordinance Committee met Sept. 2.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Attendance: Chairman Kyle Buettner
Committee Members: Jim Trantham, Jordon Riley, Gary Most, and Jim Hopkins. Attendees: Mayor Stan Darter, Tina Charron, Joel Vogt, Matt Buettner, Sarah Craig, J.R. Landeck, Nathan Krebel, Roberta Rohwedder, and Tammy Kujawa.
Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Alderman Kyle Buettner, Chairman. Agenda Item 1: Petitions by Citizens on Non-Agenda Items: None
Agenda Item 2: Standing Committees.
Mayor Stan Darter explained the new ordinance would address clean-up purposes for current committees, as well as, adding a new committee for Property. The Property Committee is needed to manage acquisition, disposal, and use, etc. of city owned property.
Alderman Gary Most felt that the Planning / Annexation Committee was not the same and agreed with the new committee on Property; however, questioned the budget for a new committee half-way through the year. Mayor Stan Darter stated that City Hall maintenance is budgeted but landscaping will go through the new Property Committee. Collector Sarah Craig noted that landscaping for this year was already in the budget as well.
Alderman Matt Buettner said that the Building / Office Committee was generally taken care of through the Finance Committee and agreed with the deletion of the Building / Office Committee from the code.
A motion was made by Alderman Gary Most and seconded by Alderman Jordon Riley to recommend approval of the Standing Committee Ordinance to be presented at City Council.
Motion passed unanimously.
Agenda Item 3: Comments.
Mayor Stan Darter stated that Roberta had received a call late today regarding locating a Vape Shop in the City of Waterloo. Zoning Officer Roberta Rohwedder said the caller wanted to do “gummies” and “kratom”. She said the city doesn’t allow cannabis in the city limits and kratom is dangerous. She would like to have kratom added to the city ordinance as a prohibited substance. Mayor Darter agreed and Alderman Gary Most questioned the use of “sister products”. Alderman Jordon Riley suggested taking it to the Utility Meeting with Alderman Jim Hopkins stated that MEGSI could also attend and give some input.
The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Alderman Gary Most and seconded by Alderman Jordon Riley.
Motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
