The Sparta World Shooting & Recreational Complex, located in rural Sparta, Illinois, serves as a significant facility for sport shooting within State Representative David Friess’ 115th district. Spanning 1,600 acres, the complex hosts major sporting traditions and attracts participants from across the country.

Representative David Friess highlighted the importance of the facility to Southern Illinois. “The Sparta Shooting Complex has long been a cornerstone of Southern Illinois values. The Shooting Complex brings families and young people together to enjoy the outdoors and learn about conservation,” Friess said. He expressed appreciation for Skip Klinger, director of the complex, and its employees: “I want to thank Skip Klinger, the current director of the Shooting Complex, and all the employees who support the Shooting Complex; they are passionate advocates for our youth. They provide our youth with great opportunities to work and participate in these world-class events.”

Friess also discussed his sponsorship of House Bill 2327 (HB2327), which permits 14- and 15-year-olds to serve as scorers at events such as the U.S. Open and Grand American Championships under safety guidelines. “That’s why I proudly sponsored HB2327, which allows 14- and 15-year-olds to work as scorers in the U.S. Open and Grand American Championships while ensuring their safety,” he stated.

He emphasized his commitment to promoting outdoor activities among local youth: “We must continue to encourage our young people to get outside, hunt, fish, and appreciate the natural beauty of our region. I will keep fighting for these Southern Illinois values.”

David Friess is a Republican who was elected in 2023 to represent Illinois' 115th House District after Nathan Reitz.
