Sen. Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) has been busy lately working on transportation issues, school funding, employment department initiatives and constituent meetings, according to a press release.

Now that the school funding issue has been settled, lawmakers can turn their attention to the state's economy, and Fowler said he is looking forward to economic development work, according to the release. He called the shift in attention critical and urged others to dedicate more time and attention to the Illinois economy.

Fowler was one of several area lawmakers who met with the Illinois Department of Transportation to find logical ways to improve or reduce traffic flows in response to a 30 percent climb in the number of fatalities on the I-57 and I-24 corridors.

Fowler also reported that the Illinois Department of Employment Security updated lawmakers recently on efforts to streamline payroll filings. Illinois employers now may use the same software to deal with both the Department of Revenue and Department of Employment Security, rather than two systems that had made things much more cumbersome, Fowler said.
