Waterloo Feed & Pet Supply Inc issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.
Buddy Update:
Although this is not an easy post to make, maybe because by doing so it makes it so much more real— but we thought it was best update our customers and Buddy's friends on what is going on.
Friday we received results that confirmed Buddy has Squamous Cell Carcinoma/Tongue Cancer. This is an aggressive form of cancer commonly found orally in middle-aged cats. There is no one factor that is known to cause SCC. Unfortunately, oral SCC is an aggressive locally invasive tumor that is difficult to control; it appears to have a low rate of spread to other sites (metastasis) but this may be simply due to the short survival times following diagnosis.
Buddy is in great spirits, acting like his usual self while showing no signs of discomfort or pain at this time. He is eating, playing, and running around. He is currently on medications to hopefully slow down the growth and to make him comfortable while we search for options to help him, but for the time being we are just loving him extra and praying for a miracle. For all of you that love Buddy as one of your own, we invite you to please come visit him and hug him a bit tighter than normal.
We also would like to thank Dr. Shannon and her staff at Riverstone Animal Hospital for their assistance, care and compassion for our Buddy throughout his diagnosis. We can not thank you all enough!
