Sparta Community Hospital is offering a free nutrition education event to help community members maintain healthy eating habits during the holiday season. The session, titled “Staying on Track During the Holidays,” will be led by registered dietitian Courtney Johnson, MS, RD, LDN. It is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in Broadway Plaza’s Auxiliary Room A.

The event aims to address common challenges people face with food choices and health routines during festive periods. Johnson plans to provide strategies that include balancing meals, practicing portion control, incorporating more vegetables into daily diets, and eating mindfully without guilt. Attendees will also receive advice on improving sleep and managing stress levels.

The session is open to everyone interested in healthier habits or managing specific health conditions such as diabetes. There will also be information for those using GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro.

“The goal is to feel great — not restricted,” says Johnson. “We want to help people feel confident and in control — whether they’re managing weight, improving blood sugar, or simply trying to make healthier choices.”

Participants can expect practical tools for consistent self-care through the holidays without resorting to extreme dieting in the new year.

Registration is encouraged but not required; interested individuals can call 618-443-1467 to reserve a seat. The hospital notes its ongoing commitment to supporting community wellness throughout all seasons.
