Sparta Community Hospital is highlighting the importance of diabetes awareness during National Diabetes Awareness Month in November. The hospital is urging community members to take proactive steps toward preventing and managing diabetes by combining their Annual Wellness Visit with a diabetes screening or education session.
According to Sparta Community Hospital, many Americans are affected by diabetes, often without realizing they are at risk. Early detection and education are seen as key factors in improving health outcomes. The hospital recommends that patients use their Annual Wellness Visit as an opportunity to review blood sugar and cholesterol levels, discuss family history and personal risk factors, learn about nutrition and medication management, receive referrals for diabetes education and nutrition counseling programs, and set personal health goals.
“Whether you’ve been recently diagnosed or living with diabetes for years, our registered dietitian and fitness coordinator offers one-on-one guidance to help you: Understand your A1C and lab results; Plan balanced meals and snacks; Incorporate exercise safely; Manage stress and blood glucose levels; Prevent complications and stay on track,” the hospital stated.
Annual Wellness Visits at Sparta Community Hospital are covered by Medicare and many commercial insurance plans at no cost to patients. During these visits, providers also review vaccinations, screenings, and preventive care options tailored to individual needs.
